By air or by sea
Once again we have arrived at any fishing lovers favorite time of year. That very special time when the sun starts to warm the Gulf of America and the days become longer. Large schools of squid, rainbow minnows, and several types of white baits that include menhadden, pilchards, and small fish of all types are either spawned or move into our area chasing the ideal water temperature. Birds that have foraged over the winter months for whatever food they could find are out over the bays and gulf waters in large flocks. Its not hard to find the bait because hundreds of seagulls pelicans ospreys and even the majestic bald eagle can be seen diving from high above for a morning meal. The birds are not the only predators that are chasing the baitfish, below the surface new visitors have arrived. Sleek fast and full of sharp teeth the Spanish Mackerel have followed the bait up the coast and they didnt come alone! King mackerel, Bonita, Mahi Mahi, Jack Crevelle, Sailfish, and many others are coming to feast on these massive schools of baitfish. With all of these birds of prey and fish from below there is yet another that is seeking action and has been watching patiently!
The Ultimate Predator
The birds and fish are not the only ones chasing after these new visitors to the area. Both private boats and charter boats will be joing the fray adding to the already chaotic looking scene. The "Lady Black" and the" Captain Black" are charterboats out of Captain Anderson's Marina in Panama City Beach, Florida that offer fishing trips for visiting guest. Using a variety of techniques we can target a specific fish or variety of fish. Trolling, is a technique that offers the opporotunity fo catch fish while the boat is moving thru the water. We can rig trolling rods with spoons, lips lures, skirts that are often rigged with a dead minnow, or a live bait that is hooked in a manner to cause it to swim naturally behind the boat. These techniques are highly effective and have resulted in more inshore fish being brought to the dock in the Spring than all other techniques combined. When the fish are feeding it is not unusual to see all four rods get hit at the same time. The deckhand will be hurrying to unhook the fish and getting the lines back in the water for the next chance to hook up! Add the natural beauty of Panama City Beach and some incredible fishing and you have a recipe for success.
